This
structure was selected by the Victorian Outlet Mall Developers to
demonstrate the rehabilitation potential that is typical of many
historic structures within the outlet mall redevelopment district.
The building’s three facades serve as an example of an intact
storefront and façade, a severely altered façade and
how the middle façade can be transformed to create a unique
and exciting retail image.
Historically significant interior architectural features were to
be preserved and the remainder of the interior was prepared to accept
the new retail tenant’s improvements. Replica tin ceilings
were incorporated within the first 30 feet of the retail space.
Streetscape, sidewalk and landscaping directly in front of the renovated
façade were designed to reflect the intended master plan
concept.
Kayafas Architects worked with Heritage Architectural Associates,
the State Historic Preservation Office and the Developers to achieve
results consistent with standards set forth by the Secretary of
the Interior for Historic Buildings and tax credits.
